PENSACOLA, Fla. (May 21, 2019) – Baptist Health Care has provided $15,000 in scholarship funds for Pensacola State College (PSC) students who are enrolled in the emergency medical technician (EMT) program.

The presentation was made by Jennifer Grove, vice president of external relations at Baptist, and Drew Stringfellow, director of primary, urgent and emergency care.

"Baptist Health Care recognizes that emergency medical services (EMS) is a vital public service. Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of people in our community. Every day our emergency team members work closely together with EMS professionals who provide pre-hospital medical care to our patients. We are thrilled to support Pensacola State College and the students who have chosen this critically important career field for their profession through the creation of these EMS scholarships. Together, we will help people throughout life's journey," said Mark Faulkner, president/CEO of Baptist Health Care.

The gift is a three-year commitment to fund five $1,000 scholarships each year. The need-based scholarships will cover the cost of tuition, fees, books and other materials and program-specific equipment listed in the syllabus.

“Workforce development is a key component of Pensacola State College’s mission. We focus and invest in the health sciences so that we can help address Northwest Florida’s labor shortages in the EMS/EMT field,” said PSC President Ed Meadows. “Offering scholarship assistance is one way to attract students who can help fill the openings in this field. Baptist Health Care’s gift will help highly-motivated students who lack resources earn their certifications.”
